Dear Madam Chairwoman,
Dear Mister Chairman,

In this half-year period, the Czech Republic is presiding over the Council of the European Union. It will be a great honour for us to invite representatives from your parliament to the meeting of Budget and Financial Committees Chairpersons that we are organizing in Prague for 27 and 28 April 2009. The focus of this conference will be the future financial outlook of the European Union and enforcement of the rules for the common European financial market.

The programme begins on Monday, April 27, with the official opening of the conference scheduled for the same day from 2:00 p.m. The workshops will be divided into two parts. The first part will take place on Monday, April 27. The topic will be “EU Revenue and Expenditure Policy Plans after 2013”, and it aims to tie in with the European Commission’s conference “Reforming the Budget, Saving Europe” held last year on 12 November 2008. The second part, entitled “Banking Oversight and Supervision of the Capital Markets – Strengthening the Stability and Development of a Common European Financial Market”, will be held on Tuesday, April 28. It is also intended to follow on loosely from the meetings of the delegations of the Member States’ parliamentary committees with the ECON committee of the European Parliament held in early February of this year.

The conference programme is enclosed with this invitation. The registration form, the hotel reservation form, and other information are available on the Parliament’s website for the Czech Presidency: www.parliament.cz. The deadline for sending the hotel reservation and registration forms is 27 March 2009.

It would be an honour if representatives of your committees dealing with budgetary and financial issues could attend. In this connection, we would like to ask you to please forward this invitation to your respective committees. We look forward to our meeting in the Czech Republic.
